Car Insurance HUMMER (Car Insurance). Is a 1997 toyota corolla with 236,000 miles in good condition sound like a good first car?Is a 1997 toyota corolla with 236,000 miles in good condition sound like a good first car? I just bought my first car, a 1997 toyota corolla with 236,000 miles on it. It is in very good condition. I paid 1600 for it. I was wondering if you though it was a good buy, and if it will last to at least 300,000 miles? It might. That's a question you should have asked the mechanic you had inspect it prior to buying. Well its not the miles you have to worry about bc the engine is more than likely fine. Its the parts you have to worry about. But it should last you a few years or a little more. So if your just trying to get a few years out of it then its a good buy. In My view its Too Old car, May be its worth for Money, but for the First time car users its not advisable to have too old cars. W/ those miles, you'l be wondering about things everyday. HUMMER . How to Replace the Door Pins & Bushings in a Chevy TahoeIf the doors on your Chevy Tahoe contains pins and bushings--the exact type of hinges used depends on the year of the vehicle--those pins should be the only components you can personally work on, because the hinges are likely fused to the door. These pins can wear down over time and cause the door to sag, which can lead to damage to internal components in the door. Replacement pin sets include the bushings and rings you'll need with them, but you'll also need more tools and possibly an assistant or two. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Bench Forked pry bar Needle-nose pliers Punch and hammer Vise grip pliers Spring compressor toolRemoval Step by Step : 1 Open the Tahoe's door and have one or two people hold it in position with your replacement pins and bushings ready, or place a small bench underneath the door to support it, or both. 2 Look at both pins on the door and take note of which way the pins are pointed and how the bushings are positioned. 3 Pry the door's hold-open spring carefully out of the door using a pry bar. 4 Grab hold of the C-clips on each pin near the pin's "pointed" end using needle-nose pliers and remove the clips. 5 Drive each pin out of one hinge hole with a punch and hammer; strike the pin at the pointed end, whether it is pointed up or down. 6 Grasp the partially removed pin with vise grip pliers and strike the pliers with the hammer to completely remove it. 7 Strike and drive the bushings partially out of the holes with the punch and hammer, and pry them the rest of the way with the punch and a notched pry bar. Discard the bushings. Installation Step by Step : 1 Place the bushing on the correct hole in the hinge and squeeze it partially in place with vise-grip pliers, then drive it the rest of the way in with the punch and hammer using sharp taps. 2 Insert the pin into the hinge bracket and drive it into place with the punch and hammer. 3 Place the lock ring for the replacement pin onto the hinge pin so it is seated within the groove at the pointed end. Drive the ring into place with the hammer and forked pry bar. 4 Compress the hold-open spring with a compressor tool and insert the spring in place on the door, between the detent mechanism and the door, then carefully loosen and release the spring from the compressor.
HUMMER . Replacing Door Hinge Pins & Bushings on an S10Replacing door hinge pins and bushings on an S10 Chevrolet pickup truck requires a little elbow grease and some know how. The fix takes around two hours to complete. After all is said and done, close your door and listen to the sound of silence. No longer will the metal scrape against itself and screech. If you have an assistant, ask them to help. The project is easier with two people pitching in. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Stool or support Nail punch Hammer Hinge pins Bushings Step by Step : 1 Open the door of the s10. Slide a stool or small bench under the door to support it while you work. Anything about the height of the bottom edge of the door will do the trick. 2 Place a nail punch on the hinge bolt inside the door. While supporting the door by hand or with your support object, tap the hammer to push the nail punch into the pin. Keep tapping until the hinge pin slides up and out of the hinge. When it is about 1/2 inch out of the hinge, grasp it with a pair of pliers or pry it out by hand. Remove the hinge pins while supporting the door. 3 Place the nail punch in the bushings and tap the bushings out of the hinge with the hammer. Do this on both the door frame of the car and the door itself, which is now removed. Continue to tap the bushings until they come out. 4 Insert a new set of bushings into the hinge and door frame. Gently tape them into place with the hammer. 5 Position the door so the hinge holes line up with the hinge holes on the car frame. Hold the door in place (ask your assistant for help here). Slide one of the hinge bolts through the bushings of both hinges. Tap the pin into place with the hammer so it threads through the hinge and secures the door in place. 6 Open and close the door to ensure the hinges are properly aligned. *Brake shoes 2 7C Part 111: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System Here are the parts you should look at, what you should find, and what to do if they need to be repaired or replaced: • Wheel cylinders: The wheel cylinders should show no signs of leaking brake fluid. If they're leaky, consult a brake shop. • Brake shoes and linings: These should be evenly worn, with no bald spots or thin places. The brake lining should be at least Keinch from the steel part of the brake shoe or Ke inch from any rivet on brake shoes with rivets. The linings should be firmly bonded or riveted to the brake shoes. Most brakes give from 10,000 to 20,000 miles of wear. Some last even longer. If yours have been on your car for some time, they'll have grooves in them and may be somewhat glazed. 837

Pontiac G3. * If your brake drums have been wearing evenly and your vehicle has been braking properly, disregard the grooves and the glazing unless your linings look badly worn. If your linings are worn, have them replaced at once. This job involves replacing the brake shoes with "new" ones that have new linings on them. Always replace brake shoes in sets (four shoes for two front or rear wheels is a set) for even performance. Replacing them all at once is even better. If your brake shoes need to be replaced, remember that almost all "new" brake shoes are really rebuilt ones. When your brake shoes are replaced, your old brake shoes are returned to a company that removes the old linings, attaches new ones, and resells the shoes. So it can't hurt to ask whether the core charge can be deducted from the price of the new shoes. 12. Take a look at the self-adjusting devices on your brakes. (Figures 18-7 through 18-9 show the most common self-adjusters.) Trace the cable from the anchor pin above the wheel cylinder, around the side of the backing plate, to the adjuster at the bottom of the plate. Is the cable hooked up? Does it feel tight? If your brake pedal manages to apply your brakes before it gets halfway down to the floor, the adjustment is probably just fine. If not, and if the cylinders, linings, shoes, and so on, are okay, the adjusting devices may be out of whack. Making a couple of forward and reverse stops should fix them. If this approach doesn't work, you may need an adjustment at a service station. Don't attempt to fiddle with these yourself. Figure 18-7: Self-adjusting Delco Moraine brake: When you back up, the adjusting links and springs adjust the brakes automatically. Figure 18-8: Manually adjusted brake: You turn the star wheel adjuster by hand to adjust the brakes. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings 2 "7 A HUMMER .
